Our growing family
A little bit about our family, to give you some history. Jimmy and I met the summer between our sophomore and junior years of college outside of a bar. Yep, a bar....at about 2:30AM. He actually recognized me from 2 years prior when I attended an assembly with my mom, who worked at his high school (he has a good memory) and came up to me and asked if I was my mom's daughter. I immediately dismissed this drunken fool, but then ended up at his apartment for after hours with a mutual friend. After lots of talking (mainly me!) we instantly sparked a friendship...and it helped that he had a really cute dog named Toby :) A few months later, we started semi-long distance dating, as he was in Lawrence, KS at the University of Kansas and I was in Manhattan, KS at Kansas State University. We dated all through college and then I graduated in May of 2007 and started working at Deloitte Consulting in July of that year and bought a condo in downtown KC. Due to an intense work schedule and traveling....I wasn't sure I could maintain our relationship, still semi-long distant. So we broke up- scariest thing I have ever done in my life. But after some time apart...about 9 months...we decided that neither one of us wanted to spend time with anyone else, so we got back together in spring of 2008. In the meantime, I quit my crazy job and started a wonderful career at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City...adopted two wiener dogs from a local shelter- Milly and Willy, and loved life!
Then in April of 2009, we got engaged in the sweetest proposal I could possibly imagine. We bought a house in May 2009 then got married on April 10, 2010 (which was actually exactly 6 years and 364 days - so pretty much 7 years - from the day that Jimmy saw me at the assembly at his high school) and started our journey of this amazing thing we call marriage. In November of 2011, I told Jimmy some life changing news...we were going to have a baby after months of trying!! After a really good pregnancy and a LONG and HOT summer, we welcomed Charlie Carter into our lives on July 31, 2012 and our lives have not been the same since. And neither has this blog...as most of the posts are about him!
Then we got a sweet surprise when Charlie was 15 months old - we were pregnant again! Miss Madeline Abigail made her debut 8 days before her due date on July 4 - what a fun holiday to have a birthday. Free fireworks every year!!
We are so thankful for all the blessings we have from some pretty amazing friends and family! Can't wait to see what the future has to bring for us and our little family of 4 (or 7 if you count the pups!) :)
